Reading, cutting, eating, bowling

Today was our first "official" day of summer vacation!!!

Drop everything and read!! Logging in our reading minutes!

After cleaning and packing, we headed off for haircuts! Mckenna had to stand to get an even cut!

Norah got a little bang trim!

We took a little pit stop for lunch! Gotta love kids eat free Tuesday!!

While Norah napped, Mckenna practiced her computer mouse skills. She has a computer based pre-kindergarten assessment coming up soon!

After naps it was off to Ariana's bowling party.... Darn you 65 degree and rain weather canceling the pool party!

Our Favorite Kids Books

This week on Kelly's Korner she is featuring posts about kids books.

At our house we LOVE books! We have baskets and baskets of books. A lot of these are from my baby shower when I was pregnant with Mckenna. The great hostesses had each guest bring a book instead of a card. I know this is a growing trend... And I just love it! What a perfect way to start a book library!

Now that Mckenna has gotten older, our book choices have slowly grown and changed. Although she loves some of our classics (Brown Bear and Snuggle Puppy) because she can "read" them, our nightly reads currently involve princesses, Pinkaliciois, and any other Disney character!

A BIG favorite at our house are these sets of Disney "Me-Readers". Have you seen them before?? They are perfect for little ones! Mckenna got her first set around 2 1/2... And we have collected all three sets they make! I highly recommend them!

They are a set of 8 books with a "remote", as Mckenna calls it. The remote is a little electronic device that reads the books to the kids. The device has a shape that coordinates with a shape on the page in the book, so the kids know which page they are on and can follow along. Mckenna will sit and "read" book after book! A great way to get kids excited to read and build confidence doing it independently! As they get older the device could get put away and the books read aloud!

They make a princess set, a Disney Pixar set and a Disney Classics set. We love them all!
We've gotten them from Amazon and at Kohl's!

Happy reading!!

Once Upon A Time...

Mckenna is starting to get interested in "reading" books to Norah and I. She has a couple that she has memorized enough to get through them (Brown Bear, and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom). I am trying to teach her to tell the story through the pictures. She is so funny with Disney Princess books because she knows the story behind them all and she turns every little board book into a recap of the movie!

You will see at the start of the clip how excited she gets! It makes me laugh all the time! She gets like this over the silliest things... a new shirt, a favorite snack!! HA!

New Toy & Fun with Wipes

On Friday night Uncle Jay stopped by to bring us an extension ladder to hang more Christmas lights... he also brought Mckenna new/old toy from the boys. She spent the whole night enjoying it!
It's a little "reading" chair with a little book & light.

She has already been making some of the letter and animal sounds from the book!

She also spent part of our Friday night being NAUGHTY!!!

She loves standing on her chair and then telling me to SIT!

Do you see her new little blanket on the back of the chair. She got it at her Christmas party Thursday from her Secret Santa. It has Minnie Mouse on it and is embroidered with her name.
Yep, she also enjoyed emptying the package of wipes....
