Spring Break: Day 3

Spring break day 3.... May you long be known as the day of mass crafting at our house!!!

Today was our big "at home" day. Mckenna has been begging for some good projects, so they were on the agenda all day long! 

First up was our three step canvas painting project: step 1 paint the canvas!

Step 2: paint your hands... One at a time!

Ummmm....

Take a break while paint dries to snap a few pictures (sneak peak of early birthday pics!!!)

Funny store of our morning.... We were upstairs playing and putting laundry away . The kids wanted paper for playing school. I told them they would have to wait, which went over awesome! Norah said "paper?" And the light bulb went off! Yep, she got toilet paper to play school!!! Ha!!

Step 3 of our craft was adding stems and leaves to our handprint flowers! Love how they turned out!

After many crafts and while Norah napped I finished up a few more freezer meals! Bam!

This girlie would spend all day coloring. All day.

Bath time.... Well post bath robe time!

End of the Year Gifts

One thing that I forgot to post about were our end of the year gifts for our WONDERFUL teachers!! 

I was looking for a fun summer idea, so here is what I went with!

I bought each of them (teacher and aide) a straw cup from Target.. the fun, thermal "cold cups"!

I filled them with chocolate, Crystal Light individual drink mixes and a Sonic gift card! 

YUM!!!

We also did a little gift for each of Mckenna's classmates. 

We packaged up three freeze pops (not frozen!!) and tied them up with some ribbon. 

We added a fun tag that says

"Stay Cool this Summer. Have your mom call or text my mom so we can play!"

I then added my number and my email address! 

Fun!

Candy Topiaries

TOPIARIES 

They are all over Pinterest.... and now they are on this blog!! 

What better way to decorate a sweet shoppe party than candy topiaries!! 

These beautiful pieces were SO easy to make and added such an impact to the party! I love them!!

 The first topiary I made was a gumball one! 

I purchased a 6 inch styrofoam ball... LOTS of gumballs (around 300) and grabbed the hot glue gun!

I simply glued the gumballs to the styrofoam ball. Yep! Easy!

Now the hard part... the ball was HEAVY once all the gumballs were glued on. 

I painted a wooden dowel and used it to secure the ball for standing. 

I then inserted the wood dowel into a bucket that was filled with floral foam and weighted down with bags of sand!

I covered the floral foam/bags of sand with tissue paper to make it pretty! 

A little ribbon... Perfect!!!

The Dum Dum Topiary was a little easier.... I simply stuck the suckers into the styrofoam balls. 

I made two of these... so I needed about 600 suckers!! Yes! Crazy!!

Oriental Trading sells bags of 300! 

Similar to the gumball topiary, I painted a wooden dowel and secured it in floral foam.
I weighted the bucket/foam down with sandwich bags filled with sand. 

This time I used paper shreds for the filling. 

Loved these!!!

 

I used the Lollipop Topiaries on the sweet table...

It's a little hard to see, but the gumball topiary is the centerpiece on my kitchen table, which was for snacks and food!

Picture Display Board

One of my favorite features at Norah's party was the month picture display I put up on the 

entry way table. For both of my girls, I took monthly pictures next to a teddy bear.

I have a collage frame of wallet pictures hung of Mckenna's monthly pictures... I will be making the same for Norah. 

For Norah's party, though, decided to feature a "Watch Me Grow" board! 

I loved out it turned out!!

Here is the whole display... the teddy bear featured was "the bear".

I have several different ways to display pictures and couldn't decide which way to go. 

A trip to Michaels lead me to a large canvas! Perfect!

I purchased a 20x24 sized stretched canvas. 

I painted it with a bright pink paint to coordinate with the party theme. 

I then grabbed a spool of green ribbon (I had it on hand) and 

hot glued ribbon to the back of the canvas on each side. 

(I didn't want to secure it to the canvas because I want to re-use the canvas with different ribbon for a different project)

I then used mini-clothespins to secure the pictures to the ribbon. That's it! 

There are 4 pictures on the top row because I had a 1 week picture... then they go monthly.

Tissue Paper Flower #1

I am finally getting a chance to post some of the crafts from Norah's birthday party! 

It took me a week to recover, clean, and pack up the decorations! 

Then we hit the end of the year festivites for Mckenna for school. Sooo... Here I am! 

One of my favorite pieces that I made for the party was a paper flower #1

This project was perfect because I was able to use it for multiple party related events and it was cheap to make! Awesome!

I started with 2 packages of pink tissue paper. This was 12 total sheets of tissue paper. 

I layered 3 pieces of tissue on top of one another.

 

I folded them accordian style...

I then cut the folded tissue into thirds and tied it off in the center with a pipe cleaner.

After the tissue is tied and secured, fan out ....

And begin pulling the tissue layers to separate them. 

When separating them, pull them all towards the center/in the same direction.

You want one side to be all puffy and the other to be flat.

This is with one half all separated.

Tissue pom pom!

After making all of your pom poms (or before) find some cardboard and cut it into the

number/letter/shape you would like it to be. You could buy some cardboard or just find a box and cut it up. I used a diaper box. My number is about 20 inches tall

After you have your cardboard ready and the pom poms done... you start assembling. I simply hot glued the flowers onto the cardboard.... 

Voila! Done!!
